Fred Barbour

I have been practicing law for more than 25 years, primarily in Asheville and greater Western North Carolina. My practice is entirely litigation, representing parties in disputed matters involving personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, and business cases. I have tried more than 100 cases to a jury verdict in both state and federal courts.

While I am proud of my ability to win cases before a jury, I am also proud of my role as mediator. I was certified as a mediator in 2002 and have successfully mediated hundreds of cases. This experience has given me a unique perspective and insight into how to get cases resolved both inside as well as outside the courtroom.

Whatever the situation, I enjoy the challenge of representing individuals in difficult circumstances and am rewarded by the professional satisfaction of helping them resolve their problems.

I went to undergraduate school and earned my law degree at the University of North Carolina. In 2008, Business North Carolina recognized me as one of the state’s top litigators. My peers included me in the 2009 edition of Best Lawyers in America.

I have been fortunate to have experienced rewarding work in my career through community service. For 20 years, Pisgah Legal Services has included me on its panel of volunteer lawyers for persons unable to afford legal services. I have served as past board president, board member and legal adviser to the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity for 15 years. And I have joined my church, New Hope Presbyterian, in disaster relief trips to eastern North Carolina, Florida, and Mississippi.
